About

84b is run by the Building User Group, an association made up of organisations quartered in the building, which meets on the second Monday of every month.

The group’s functions include managing volunteer labour to clean and maintain at Freedom, dealing with issues arising and handling relevant financial issues such as repairs, utilities and rates. “Rents” are set collectively at the annual general meeting every April.

The Bug was set up to provide a consensus-led approach to building maintenance and bill payments in 2015 after a number of friendly organisations had moved into underused rooms. It feeds into the fundraising group, which was set up in 2016 to raise cash for a major refurbishment project after surveyors estimated it would take £40-50,000 to bring Freedom back to its best.

Current stakeholders include Freedom BookshopHaven Distribution, Solidarity Federation, Anarchist Federation, Corporate Watch, IWW UK, the National Bargee Travellers Association and the Advisory Service for Squatters.
